Why PolyCor Is Used In Trailer Manufacturing

Quality trailers require top-grade materials. We design our PolyCor line, including PolyCor™ AP, for trailer siding and specialty vehicle applications. Whether for trailers or toy haulers, the PolyCor brand delivers dependable and cost-effective solutions, providing trailer manufacturing materials that bring safety and peace of mind on the road.

Why Is PolyCor the Right Choice for Your Toy Hauler?

For enclosed trailers such as toy haulers, PolyCor products are an ideal fit. A toy hauler can be a travel trailer, fifth wheel, or even a motorhome, featuring a garage attached to the end of an RV. It provides extra space for camping gear, recreational vehicles, motorcycles, and more, with a ramp door for easy loading and unloading. PolyCor materials, particularly PolyCor AP, offer many benefits over traditional materials such as aluminum and wood that make them an ideal choice for manufacturing toy haulers.

PolyCor AP, which is used for trailer siding, is an excellent solution due to its wood-free properties. As opposed to wood, which rots over time, PolyCor AP is waterproof, meaning a wood-free trailer will absorb less damage and last longer than traditional trailer building materials.

Here are a few other advantages of PolyCor products for trailer siding:

Lightweight and Fuel-Efficient

PolyCor materials weigh significantly less than metal, allowing designers to create lighter trailers and haulers without compromising on durability or aesthetics.

Sound-Dampening Properties

Unlike metal and wood, which can transmit vibrations and noise, PolyCor products absorb and reduce sound, leading to a quieter trailer interior.

Soundproof Features

As wood and fiberboard degrade over time, gaps often form for sound to enter or echo. PolyCor AP, on the other hand, is compatible with various finishes that allow for enhanced insulation and further noise reduction.

Now that we’ve looked at the benefits of using PolyCor materials, let’s examine some of the essential parts for PolyCor trailer manufacturing:

Key Applications of PolyCor in Toy Haulers and Trailers

Siding Panels

Because of their low weight, toy hauler walls and siding are often made of aluminum. Unfortunately, aluminum is prone to suffering from "oil canning" — a wavy distortion on the trailer’s siding due to extreme heat or cold. PolyCor AP serves as a superior alternative with its stability, eliminating the oil canning issue.

A specially engineered sheet, PolyCor AP enhances trailer walls and offers a flat surface with a protective coating that can be easily printed or painted. This results in stronger, more visually appealing trailers. PolyCor AP’s structural integrity is also important in trailer siding panels, as its stability and strength help cancel noise-causing vibrations from the road.

Headliners

A headliner stops moisture from leaking through a toy hauler’s roof. However, headliners have traditionally been made from vinyl-coated plywood or fiber-based products, which are not entirely waterproof.

To prevent water damage, PolyCor™ HL offers a truly water-resistant alternative for trailer headliners. Its fluted ribs support all surfaces, rendering it stronger than corrugated fiberboard, lighter than wood, and more affordable than solid PVC sheets. Additionally, it is washable and chemical-resistant, resulting in long-lasting durability and preventing deterioration that can lead to increased noise.

Ceilings

Toy hauler and enclosed trailer ceilings are often made of fiber-based materials, which degrade over time due to water exposure. PolyCor HL is a transportation-grade plastic that replaces these fiber materials, providing the first commercially available water-resistant option for trailer and toy hauler ceilings. PolyCor HL’s fluted ribs also help create a barrier against external road noise, making it a highly desired material for trailer building.

Floors

Due to their strength, wood floors have been the traditional choice for trailers and toy haulers, but even treated wood is prone to deteriorate over time. An excellent, wood-free trailer alternative is PolyCor™ P.

PolyCor P is a tough, long-lasting material that won't rot, rust, or corrode. In addition, we offer AquaPlas™ SG, an industry-leading alternative that still looks like wood. Made from upcycled natural organic fibers, it is resistant to water, pests, and rot. It is also easy to process using traditional woodworking tools and machinery.

Roofs

PolyCor™ RP (Roof Panel) is a terrific product for enclosed trailer roofs due to its durability and weather resistance. PolyCor RP panels are engineered to withstand harsh weather, including extreme temperatures, UV exposure, and heavy rain. This resilience protects trailers from leaks, rust, and other weather-related damages, extending the lifespan of the hauler and reducing maintenance costs.

Lightweight and easy to install, PolyCor RP’s reduced weight helps improve fuel efficiency and strength. PolyCor RP also provides excellent structural integrity and load-bearing capacity. In addition, PolyCor RP’s ease of installation allows for quick and efficient roof replacements. No matter the environment, PolyCor RP offers a practical and cost-effective solution for trailer manufacturers.
